I cannot explain how elated I am to have been apart of such an amazing event. I was contacted by a good friend of mine to present the beauty segment for Becoming the Full Package. The event entailed of Self Image, Beauty, Mental Health and Wellness segments. All of these segments intersect in so many ways in our lives, and working with like-minded ladies made the event flow beautifully. Our mission is to change the lives and mentalities of our impressionable teenage girls.
With Beauty I wanted to make it clear that Alor is first about knowing yourself and Self Love, the tools to build your style and own it soon follow! Self Image and Self Love unfortunately are not exactly taught. Therefore, our approach had to be gentle. I included a small discussion about world beauty standards provided by mainstream media. The point is, the worlds perception of beauty that is idolized by majority is not inclusive. It instead glorifies unrealistic images in most cases. When we think of Beauty, automatically images and examples come to mind based off what the world has told us. It is a subconscious process that must be manually changed, and even then, it can be hard to remain aware of our thoughts. This provides Self Doubt, Self Esteem Issues, Hatred and Negativity to everyone, but especially to those who are not secure in who they are.
I want the new standard of beauty to be, ‘you are your own standard’. Not: you have to be thin, have light skin, straight hair, or even a specific curl pattern. How you take care of yourself and owning your style along with your character, is what exudes beauty. For me taking care of myself also meant paying attention to my interest and passion in makeup.
Currently there are so many negative stereotypes of wearing makeup. Whether it is your thing or it is not, that is something you must own, without the world’s input. So “You Define Your Beauty” is my message to the world because, we should write our own rules. We should be so self assured that we know, without a doubt, we are BEAUTIFUL. This is our life, our body, our decision.
We need to empower our girls, our women. And that is what this group of ladies has set out to do. Keep an eye out, we are hopeful this event will continue. Tour, anyone? Comment your city if you are interested in this event! In the meantime be sure to look up the ladies, they're amazing! Information provided in the Flyer.
Once I made sure they had the right motivation, I gave my 5 must knows for great looking makeup.
