I've had a lot of inquires about my curls lately. I want to firstly say, my natural curl is indeed out but the length of my hair right now is due to a sew in. My goal by getting a curly weave sew in is to grow my natural curls, that I love dearly, to the length I desire. The shrinkage is so real for me. lol I always loved my curls but hated the fact that throughout the day they eventually made their way from my shoulder to my ear... My gorgeous friend Chelsey constantly tells me to stop putting heat on my hair, and to detangle my curls strand by strand to avoid damage, like she does and BRUH... I ain't got time lol However, the benefits of doing that is obvious when you see her hair, just GORGEOUS! I commend her but to be real with you, I am not that patient. Therefore, I turned to Sew Ins. Thankfully my hair is strong enough to where it does not have a lot of shedding when I get a sew in so I get a lot of growth and minimal loss, while also making it so much easier for my day.
For my natural hair I usually just make sure no matter what product I am using that is has some type of hydrating component. My hair can be really dry, most likely due to over exposure to heat. Therefore, I make sure to do a deep condition quite often. I usually make my own which consists of saturating my hair in coconut oil, conditioners and other oils overnight. I feel like my hair just looks healthier and fed afterwards. I love all these products mentioned below because although they are not all labeled moisturizers or lotions, they do have a certain hydrating quality to them. Even the Jelly (gel) has a certain texture to it that you are able to see it is not just a standard hair gel that dries 'cripsy' lol.
I was introduced to Curls Unleashed by my current manager who has curly hair but finer hair. For her, it weighed her curls down TOO much. She gave me a jar to try and it was perfect for what I needed. I use the jelly on both my natural curl and my weave and it did great with both. I honestly cannot wait to use it on my full head because I think the weight of the product will get me the elongating effect I have been needing to avoid some shrinkage throughout the day. With that being said, it obviously may not be what you are looking for if you have a fine loose curl. Best part is that it is 10$, all the other curl brands that know they have a winner product usually sell it for 15$ and up! I mean, geez. I don't know about y'all but I am about the bargain!
Hicks Edges Pomade was introduced to me by MakeupShayla. She does not go anywhere without her Hicks and I see why! Although I will say, because my hair gets rather fine when straightened, I have to be really careful with how much I use while my hair is straight. Too much wet or greasy consistency turns my hair back to waves or curls. (I know some of y'all feel me.) So, just keep that in mind. However, for my curls this product is perfect! It is crystal clear which is my favorite when it comes to edge control. It is normally about 11-13$. Garnier Fructis is one of my favorite hair brands. It may not work for everyone but it has always been old faithful to me and my hair texture. I really enjoy all their products, especially their deep condition but what I have been using on my curls a lot is the Anti Humidity milk for 4$. Like I mentioned my curls get dry throughout the day so to avoid frizz a little of this milk goes a long way. And it is especially great when you are ready to straighten out your curls. We all know when your hair is naturally curly you are more prone to frizz and your hair turning into a lions mane after a little fog. *rolls eyes*
Lastly, is another old faithful. I really could not believe it but mixing a little of Pink lotion in this concoction gave me the little moisture I needed for my curls to stay looking hydrated and fresh all day long. A little of this goes a long way as well, too much and you will look like a bowl of chicken grease lol! Oh yea it's only 5 bucks as well!
