Happy Christmas Eve Eve, everyone!
I have a busy busy bee getting my home ready to host Christmas this year and if you know me at all, hosting and interior design is one of the keys to my happiness. And just like everything else I do, I added the Christmas spirit to our home while being budget-conscious. So I wanted to post a guide in case you were feeling like you were missing something to get the Holiday season ambiance you were hoping to achieve. Here's my quick shopping guide to a comfy cozy home, and don't worry - it's not too late. Actually you'll probably get great deals due to how late in the season it is. Things usually start going on sale by the 2nd week of December just in case you didn't know.
I'm a home-body at heart, no doubt about it. So when I think of 'home', I automatically think of a few things. The aroma, the decor, good food, my favorite blanket, and show or movie playing. But when I think of 'home' during the Holidays.
My Must Haves:
- Candles and more candles
- Christmas lights
- Blankets & Couch Throws
In this image, we got the table itself from IKEA ($69), the mini Christmas tree, snowman and 3-wick candle all from TJMAXX. The mid and lower shelf are all items we had prior, apart from the glass frame with the 'Dream' decal, which was a random lucky find from Dollar tree. The string of lights is from BigLots where they have boxes of mini stringed lights for only $3.99. The metal 'T & S' were purchased from Hobby Lobby, which I painted white for our engagement party back in March and repurposed for the doorway art until we find the piece we want to replace it. The last piece I'll mention is the coat hanger in the upper left corner that reads 'welcome'. I found it at BigLots for $15. Therefore we were able to fully decorate our entryway for under $100.
- TJMaxx (best candle selection, based on quality and value!)
- Big Lots
- Dollar Tree
- At Home
- World Market
What are your hot spots for good deals? I know there are a ton more and this girl always loves a good find!
Now, of course, the focal piece for hosting should be the table, right? So I had these marble containers on my table with a fruit bowl in between them initially. For the holidays I swapped out the bowl for 2 pieces as the centerpiece. The snowflake table runner, and the beaded Christmas tree. I also needed additional placemats due to our guest count, so I got placemats and snowflake chargers. All these items were on sale at Big Lots. I was very surprised and pleased with their holiday selection. There are also a couple of ornaments I found while checking out at Walmart that matched my decor and added a 3d element to my design on the flat surface table.
To finish up the table decor and also feed my freakish obsession with glassware and serve ware. These super cute 'goblets' are from dollar tree! I knew for Christmas dinner we were planning to have egg nog this year and I wanted a classic, almost vintage looking glassware set for it and found the perfect fit for $1 each! I literally LOVE dollar tree. Don't sleep on it.
What are your must-haves for home to feel like home? Or for the Holidays specifically?
As for the living room, this is where we have our Christmas tree displayed. The tree itself was a great deal I found at Walmart. It's a 6ft, pre-lit tree with the faux snow effect. I absolutely love it and it's the best tree I've had thus far. It's thick and full, and the assembly is super easy. This tree was $69 bucks. As for decorating it, we went with a white, silver and blue theme. I found the ornament sets I liked best on Amazon, paired with the curtain of string lights you can see on the window behind the tree. The LED strip behind the TV also came from Amazon. Visit my personal Amazon page to view the specific brand. On the opposite wall in the living area where we entertain the most is the bar. We used an inexpensive sofa table we found at Nebraska Furniture Mart and made it work for the bar. The tray here has the marble print and the glass decanters and crystal decanter on top came from various stores. One of them for sure being Amazon - they have great sets available. Along with the drink mixers and ice bucket.
In closing, I hope it's apparent that just a few special touches in a few areas around the house can brighten up the mood and ambiance of your home for the Holidays without too much hassle. It's easy if you love it! Be sure to comment below any spots I may not have mentioned that have great deals and good finds.
